MARK WAYNE DRONET OBITUARY

Mark Wayne Dronet, son of the late Rena Dronet Metz of Lake Charles, LA and the late Robert and Alma Joseph of Crowley, LA, passed away at St. Patrick’s Hospital on October 12, 2016 with his family by his side. He attended Acadia Parish schools in Crowley, LA, and is a 1975 graduate of Crowley High School. Mark went on to obtain a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Grambling State University in 1978. His love for Grambling did not end at graduation; Mark remained an active alumnus as a member of the Lafayette –St. Martin Alumni Chapter of Grambling University, and an unofficial recruiter for the University. He is affectionately known as Mark “Tiger” Dronet among fellow alumni.

Mark’s parents taught him to love God and serve others. As a young child at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley, Mark joined the Junior Knights Division of the Knights of Peter Claver, and remained an active transitioning into a lifelong member of the Knights of Peter Claver at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also served his church community as a member of the St. Joseph Society. Later in life, Mark became a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where he deemed himself “Black Sheep,” a leader among the flock.

He worked as  a Special Education teacher/aide at Washington-Marion High School of the Calcasieu Parish School System. Additionally, Mark was a dedicated civil servant, who not only worked the local voting polls, but also transported the elderly to vote.

Mark’s smile could brighten anyone’s day. He enjoyed spending time and visiting with loved ones. Mark shared his gentle spirit with all he encountered. Zydeco music was another love of his, he could be seen at a local trail ride  or a at function presented by neighboring Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority chapters.

Mark leaves to cherish his precious memories and spirit of service his siblings: Linda Lewis- Clemons (James) and Juanita Trent of Houston, TX; Herbert “June” Lewis of Lake Charles, LA; Mary Dronet of Ruston, LA; and Brenda Rogers (Tyrone) of Mobile, AL. As well, he leaves a devoted niece, Tiffany S. Rogers of Houston, TX, dear friend, Debra Shakesnider of Shreveport, LA, and a host of relatives and friends.
